What are paid messages and what do they allow you to do?
Paid messages are a super simple way to send messages to a designated list of your existing subscribers through the Facebook Messenger channel. Paid messages are a ManyChat adaptation of Facebook's sponsored messages feature, catering to the needs of chat marketers who want to re-engage customers via Messenger.
according to Facebook Messaging PolicyPaid messages go beyondthe 24 + 1 messaging windowas the only compliant way to message subscribers; paid messages are an essential tool for true customer re-engagement activities, such as:
-
Reactivating customers by sending relevant offers, deals, or coupons, announcing new arrivals
-
Promoting similar events related to products or activities that subscribers have shown interest in
-
Continuing the conversation from where subscribers left off.

Subscribers will see “Paid Messages” as an unread message thread at the top of their Messenger inbox. If they haven't muted it in the thread/app settings, they will also receive push notifications to their devices. In the inbox screen, the thread looks like a regular message sent from a business page, but the message itself has a small label “Sponsored Message” and an option to report inappropriate ads.

-
Since “Paid Messages” essentially integrate Facebook's sponsored messages into ManyChat, a valid Facebook ad account with a valid payment method is required to create messages. Also, note that this ad account should not be your personal ad account.
-
-
-
By design, paid messages (and Facebook sponsored messages) can only be used to send messages to people who have already connected with your business via Messenger. By definition, this is not a growth tool but a tool for messaging people you have previously contacted.
-
important! ! ! By default, paid messages will reach unsubscribed users. To avoid messaging these users, you need to exclude them. You can exclude unsubscribed users by checking the “Show only subscribed users” checkbox in “Settings” > “General.” This way, unsubscribers will not be selectable in the targeting window.
-
-
You must have an admin role on the “Facebook Business” page. Since “Paid Messages” use Facebook Custom Audiences, Facebook requires you to be an admin of the Facebook page to publish “Paid Messages” on your behalf.
-
-
-
A sufficient number of subscribers is needed to populate your “Custom Audience.” To avoid the risk of poor delivery quality, Facebook recommends that the “Custom Audience” contains more than 1,000 subscribers.
-
-
-
Payment. A valid payment method should apply to the ad account you select when creating “Paid Messages.” Payment methods can be added in the “Ad Account Settings” on Facebook.
-
-
-
Billing. For paid messages, Facebook charges you based on impressions (Hereunderstand more Information)
-
-
-
Price. ManyChat does not charge any fees for using the “paid messages” feature. As mentioned above, all fees are charged by Facebook based on impressions. Prices may vary depending on the local advertising market rates in the country/region where you want to advertise. For example, in the United States, the cost per thousand impressions is about $30. Please contact Facebook Ads Support for a quote in your country.
-
-
-
Please note that a custom audience, as well as a campaign and ad set, will be automatically created for each paid message. This is done to minimize the number of manual setups. If you feel there are too many custom audiences in your ad account, you can safely delete them after the “paid message” delivery is complete (to do this, go to the “Audiences” section of your ad account).
-

Also note that you generally do not want to delete the Ad Campaign, Ad Set, or Sponsored message itself so that you can access its performance statistics later.
-
How to gradually release your paid messages.
-
Go to Broadcast -> Paid Messages
-
If you have an admin role on your Facebook page, have a sufficient number of subscribers, and have granted ManyChat permission to manage your Facebook ads, you should see the “Create Paid Message” button. Click it to start creating your message.
-
Before you enter the message builder, the system will ask you to select the ad account to use for the ad. Select the ad account and then click “Select” to continue to message creation.
-

-
-
In the message builder, use the available tools to write your message (Facebook limits it to text or a single image + text). The message draft will be saved automatically.
-
After completing this step, click the “Next” button in the upper right corner of the screen to go to the “Settings” tab.
-
At this step, you need to fill in all the settings fields. Click “Select Audience” to access the audience selector, where you can filter your target audience using any combination of ManyChat's standard audience filters.
Tip: You may want to use the “Messaging Window Segmentation” condition to exclude people who are not within the 24 + 1 messaging window to save on advertising costs (as other subscribers can be reached through regular broadcasts for free). Like this:
-

Once done, click “Select” at the bottom of the subscriber list.
-
-
Set the budget you are prepared to spend on this broadcast. The higher the budget, the more subscribers may receive your message.
-
Set the sending time. Allow the time required by Facebook to comply with Facebook Ads policiesCheck your content
-
Now, you can publish the ad by clicking the “Publish” button in the upper right corner of the screen; if everything is set correctly, the button should be active.
-
After a successful publication, you will see a screen with a summary of the sent messages:
-

To return to the “Paid Messages” list, click “Continue.”
11. If you want to stop running ads, please click the three dots in the list view, and then click the “Delete” button.
